Some Different Ways to Reward Employees for a Job Well Done
If you have employees that work for you, you need to do something for them in order to make them really enjoy coming to work. If you take the attitude that they should just be happy to have a job, you will get people that are merely going through the motions and that are probably using company time to look for a new job. Instead of being a Hitler, why not look for some new ways to reward employees when they do a good job.
Everyone needs a pat on the back at one time or another. If you only recognize the bad things that they do, you are actually promoting failure. The reasoning behind this is that the staff begins to feel that no matter how well they do their job, it isn’t going to matter because the only way to get the bosses attention is to screw up. People like to be noticed and if it takes negativity to do it, they will do it.
Now instead of having this negative energy floating around the workplace, you should be giving them little rewards for a job well done. This is not to say that you have to fall over backwards for the person that is merely doing their job, but recognizing someone that always does their job or someone that goes over and above is a great way to set them apart and give everyone else something to shoot for.
We all know how bad the economy is. The last thing and company owner wants to do is create another large bill. Well if you run your employee rewards program the right way, you can get maximum benefit with minimum investment. Depending upon your business, you may only have to give away the services or products that you sell or make.
For arguments sake, let’s say that you own a restaurant. This is a business that has a very low profit margin to start off with and most can hardly assume a costly rewards program. Instead of taking that approach, run a contest where the highest check average for the month gets a free dinner for two at the restaurant. This gives everyone something to shoot for and also gives the staff a little pride in their workplace. After all, who want to take someone to dinner at a place that they are ashamed of?
To take things a little further, you can add a year end prize for the person that has the highest average over the course of the year. This will keep everyone involved, even if they are out of the monthly contest and even if they have never actually won a single month. In this scenario, a person could end up second all year long and still win the big prize.
The real prize could be a travel voucher for a night at a local hotel or airline tickets. Now think of the positive attitudes that you are going to see for 12 dinners and a couple hundred dollars. When you look at the amount of sales that your staff will be creating, the giveaways that you are absorbing will be paid for many times over. After all, there is no better investment than investing in your staff. |
